Santa Fe style architecture is unique, recognizable and in context with parts of southwest Colorado. The Carver residence with its exterior courtyards, deep-set covered porches, vigas and hand-hewn wood columns, beams and accents makes it a good example of this style of architecture. Set in among mature pinion pines and juniper trees with the La Plata Mountains as a backdrop, the residence is in harmony with its site and surroundings. The floor plan focuses on living spaces—both inside and outside. The central circulation hall is a study of contrasts; high and low ceilings, lighting levels and shaped spaces that all contribute to the richness of the design.
